WHAT I KNOW ABOUT HAROLD …
Brandon’s memorial spells out Harold’s surname as “Goodhall”, but in my research I found no other reference to using an “H” in his spelling. Harold Goodall’s family ran a successful shoe shop along Brandon’s High Street during the war. According to Ancestry.com Harold’s birth was registered in St. Albans during the 3rd quarter of 1916. His mother’s maiden name was given as “Day”. Not much else is known about Harold.
After his death, his will, dated 21st July 1944, recorded that his home address was 43 High Street. He left £1,241 9s 10d to his widow, Evelyn, and to William Henry Goodall – a well known newsagent and bowls player; who was possibly his brother.
