WHAT I KNOW ABOUT WILLIAM …
For now very little is known about William, apart from information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. He was born in Brandon and enlisted into the Army at Norwich.
William’s battalion was involved in the capture of Jerusalem on the 8th and 9th of December 1917 and took the city from the Ottoman forces. The enemy left the city after over 500 years ownership and they surrendered the city to preserve the holy buildings from being shelled. During the fighting leading up to the surrender William was wounded. He later died of those wounds.
