War Memorial Names
In 1920, the town unveiled its war memorial dedicated to those Brandon lads who lost their lives in the Great War. Sixty-five names, of lads who served in Europe, Israel, Turkey or Iraq, who died from fighting, disease or accidents, were initially inscribed on it. Only two of those lads were buried in Brandon, the rest were buried, if a body was found, near to where they died. Details of those men can be found by clicking here.
Other lads who served
We invariably know so much about those men who were killed in the fighting and know so little about those who survived and returned home. Here is a list of Brandon lads who served in the war but are not remembered on the town’s war memorial. This is very much an ongoing work in progress.

Chronicles of Brandon
Here I narrate tales of Brandon through the Great War, some featuring what was happening in town, some of the struggles of what the lads were getting up to in the fighting. The reader starts at a point before the war, in 1913, and culminates in December 1918, with each tale covering a month from that era. All tales are based on factual events.
